Litigation funders Virage Capital Management and TRGP Capital invested in hundreds of lawsuits from Johnson & Johnson (J&J) regarding talc products, in exchange for a percentage of any settlements. J&J is now offering to pay $8.9 billion to settle any lawsuits.

The involvement of the funders is publicly available because of the New Jersey court rule requiring the disclosure of certain information about outside funding backers.
